Storm and Power Outage Update 3/5/18

Dear Gallatin Residents,

I just participated in the second day of conference calls with Central Hudson. Like yesterday I wanted to update as many people as we can through email and website, understanding many of you may not have power or internet to see these messages;  but hopefully you can pass the word to neighbors without power.
I appreciate everyone’s patience with the highway and fire crews during the storm. Always understand it is hard for the highway crews to address tree situations until all plowing and road issues are complete. Gallatin has a four person Highway Department and they worked tirelessly over the weekend to get our roads in the best shape as possible, for which I am grateful.  I thank the fire departments and the many Gallatin based volunteer fire men and women for their efforts in addressing downed trees and helping to make the downed power line situations  safe and well marked. The town clerk,  the town building inspector and the town board answered calls and emails from residents all weekend and if you still have an issue with the tax exemption paperwork filing from last week, please come in and see Lisa DeLeeuw so that she can help you solve your situation.
As always, I encourage everyone to sign up for email notices on the Gallatin Website
gallatin.yourtownhub.com and add your phone number to the Columbia County Red Alert phone list for phone updates on warming centers and shelters
Here is the latest Summary from Central Hudson. I am now reaching out to National Grid for an updated situation for those houses still without power in their service area. National Grid outages are down to smaller numbers resulting from a particular tree or pole damage. Central Hudson had main lines interrupted.
A total of 110,000 houses out total from the storm

514 houses still out due to particular poles/trees- harder to predict timing here as some are off road pole replacements
10,000 houses still out due to main trunk line issues.
1,000+ crews from all over NY and Canada working
427 houses still out in Columbia County
8,882 still out in Dutchess County
270 houses in Gallatin are still out
About 50% of residents on that list will be on by 10pm tonight, the remainder will on by 4pm tomorrow.
We anticipate another large storm event on Wednesday. Fortunately the high winds that coupled with the heavy snow and the warm ground around tree roots should not be duplicated (hopefully) by this storm. Again, always feel free to contact your town representatives at the Town Hall with particular questions and keep an eye out on our website for updates. Thank you everyone in Gallatin for your self reliance and your appreciation of the Highway crews as they come by your house.
