The Town of Gallatin, which comprises several historic settlements, is located in southern Columbia County 100 miles north of New York City and 50 miles south of Albany. The town has a long history that goes back to the early Dutch and British settlers in the region.


With a population of 1,600 people and almost 40 square miles of uncommon natural beauty, Gallatin is a rural community with historic homes, undulating farms and woodland. A portion of Lake Taghkanic Park is situated within its borders.

The town has a diverse population of full-time and part-time residents and a mix of agricultural, lumber, real estate and consulting businesses.
