Chairman’s press release

COVID-19 NEW INFECTIONS REMAIN STEADY

Last Friday, the Columbia County Department of Health recorded 24 new cases of COVID-19. On Saturday, there were 14 new cases, and for Sunday-Monday there were 25. As of midday today, six new cases had been recorded.

“That’s usually the daily trend,” said county DOH Director Jack Mabb. “The days have been starting with a low number and we’ve continually added more cases as the day goes along.

” There are currently eight hospitalized individuals, with one in the ICU.

At the Pine Haven Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center, 10 individuals are now positive for the virus. “All are vaccinated and none are seriously ill. I think that makes a statement, that the vaccine works to prevent serious illness,” said Director Mabb.

Following three days of school being open, Director Mabb said, “every single school district in the county has at least one positive case.” One Ichabod Crane Central School District classroom was closed on Monday when at least two positive cases were reported. No students have been hospitalized as a result of the infection.

The county DOH vaccination clinic scheduled for Wednesday, September 15, at the Columbia County Fairgrounds has been canceled.

Vaccination opportunities are posted on the county DOH website at columbiacountynyhealth.com
