Looking for Volunteers for the Comprehensive Plan Review Advisory Committee
Please send letter of interest and a short bio to [email protected] by July 9, 2021.
It is estimated that it will take the committee approximately a year to complete all the steps with two to three meetings a month. There will be documents and studies to review. A time commitment of up to 4 hours a week may be needed. The Comprehensive Plan is a statement of community vision. An expression of our town’s goals and recommended action to achieve those goals.
The advisory committee will be guided by planning consultants from Community Planning & Environmental Associates. Principal Planner Nan Stolenzenburg has worked with many communities like ours, she was the consultant on our 2007 plan.
After holding a public hearing, the committees findings and recommendations will be forwarded to the Town Board for review, an additional public hearing, and a vote on adoption.
The committee will gather information to answer three basic questions:
1.) What are the current conditions?
New information on demographics, natural resources, community resources, and other inventory information will be collected and analyzed. This information will then be used to identify current strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (aka SWOT). We will identify issues of importance to the community to be addressed in the plan. Focus groups, public meetings, and a town-wide survey will be used to collect public input.
2.) Where does the town want to be in 5, 10, and 20 years?
This phase uses public input and other information from step 1 to evaluate where the town sees itself in the future. This step will result in either re-validation of, or changing of the existing plans’ vision, goals, and objectives. New direction can be set in this phase to address new needs and then be fine-tuned in phase 3 with strategies.
3.) What will the Town need to do to attain that future vision?
This phase will result in recommendations of specific actions, strategies, programs, and policies Gallatin can implement over time. These strategies may include those in the previous plan if still relevant to address current needs. A key feature of this phase will be to develop a detailed action plan.
