FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

FROM: Chairman Matt Murell

PHASE TWO BUSINESS OPENING UNDERWAY

Columbia County Chamber of Commerce President Jeff Hunt said on Monday that the increase in traffic he observed on Warren Street in Hudson this past weekend, with Phase II of the state’s New York Forward reopening plan now underway, “tells me people are aware that businesses are open. I think that’s a good sign.”

Looking ahead to Phase III, when restaurants and food service can begin to open their doors to sit-down dining, Hunt said he was aware of a petition to close part of Warren Street to make way for restaurant seating. “I’ve also seen where other communities are looking to commit public spaces to put up a tent, enabling people to dine at a social distance,” he said.

As co-chair of the Columbia Comeback committee, established by county Board of Supervisors Chairman Matt Murell as a means to assist businesses as they go through the reopening process, Hunt said that “businesses really have to do their due diligence. At Columbia Comeback, we do receive specific calls on various issues, but many business owners seem to be figuring it out themselves.”

“It would be nice if we had the Phase III guidelines now, rather than two days before it opens,” Hunt added. Assuming all goes well, Phase III will open next Wednesday, June 17.
