FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

FROM: Chairman Matt Murell

COUNTY REITERATES SUMMER CAMPS STANCE

While Governor Cuomo has given the go-ahead for summer camps to open beginning June 29, Columbia County continues to adhere to its earlier determination that summer camps not open in 2020.

“I don’t see how you can hold a summer camp while maintaining social distancing and other necessary safety measures related to the spread of the coronavirus. Because of that, the county holds to our original statement that summer camps remain closed this year. This decision was arrived at in consultation with the county Health Department,” said Columbia County Board of Supervisor Chairman Matt Murell on Wednesday.

In a similar vein, Chairman Murell noted that as parents begin the return to work, child care is a critical need. “Child care services are considered an essential service under New York Forward (https://esd.ny.gov/guidanceexecutive-order-2026),” he said.

AUTO RACE TRACKS ALLOWED TO BEGIN OPERATING

With Executive Order 202.36 issued on Tuesday, auto race tracks in New York State were cleared as of today, June 3, to open their doors “pursuant to Department of Health guidance for such operation, and provided such auto racetrack allows only essential personnel or participants to be on site, and does not permit any visitor or spectator into the facility or on premise.”

The Executive Order extends until July 2.

OUTDOOR DINING OKAYED STARTING THURSDAY

On Wednesday, Governor Cuomo announced that outdoor dining at restaurants will be permitted in Phase 2 of the reopening process. Outdoor tables must be spaced six feet apart, all staff must wear face coverings and customers must also wear face coverings when not seated.
