Fatima – Fatima is a single mother with two daughters to support—a 15-year old and an 18-year old – She speaks French poorly and is constantly frustrated by her inability to communicate.  One day she falls and while on leave from her job, she begins to write to her daughters in Arabic, saying things she has never been able to express in French – In French and Arabic with English subtitles.

Je Tu Il Elle (1975) – Chantal Akerman stars as an aimless young woman who leaves self-imposed isolation to embark on a road trip that leads to lonely love affairs with a male truck driver and a former girlfriend – This is Akerman’s most sexually audacious film. In French with English subtitles.

Land and Shade –Alfonso is an old farmer who has returned home to tend to his gravely ill son.  He rediscovers his old house where the woman who was once his wife still lives with his daughter-in-law and grandson.  Seventeen years after abandoning his family, Alfonso tries to fit back in.  In Spanish with English subtitles.

Late Spring (1949) – One of the most powerful of Yasujiro Ozu’s family portraits, which tells the story of a widowed father who feels compelled to marry off his beloved  only daughter – “…a poignant tale of love and loss in postwar Japan….” – In Japanese with English subtitles.

Hogtown – Set in 1919 Chicago against the backdrop of the race riots of that year.  The story follows an investigation into the disappearance of a millionaire theatre owner during a snowstorm.

Neon Bull – Iremar, whose work is to transport bulls from one rodeo to another, dreams of a career in the fashion industry. – In Portuguese with English subtitles.

Agnes Martin: With My Back to the World  – A documentary on the internationally renowned painter – Shot over a period of four years, from 1998 through 2002, her ninetieth year – Interspersed with interviews and photographs from archival footage

The Handmaiden – From Park Chan-wook, the celebrated director of Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, and Stoker, comes a ravishing new crime drama – In Korean with English subtitles.

Women’s March in Hudson – This march is planned in conjunction with the Washington DC event and along with many other cities throughout the country.  The organizers describe this as “a peaceful march spreading love and solidarity for equality and human rights.”  Marchers are encouraged to bring signs or any décor to bring attention to this movement and the powerful message it carries.  All are welcome and encouraged to attend.  – The gathering will begin with a rally at 1 pm.  The march steps off at 2 pm and moves down Warren Street to the waterfront – At the end of the march, participants may wish to join the meeting of the Columbia County Sanctuary movement being held at Kite’s Nest, 108 South Front Street – Information at “Women’s March – Hudson” on facebook – Rally at 1 pm; March at 2 pm – Seventh Street Park (The Public Square), Seventh Street between Warren and Columbia Streets

Saturday – History, Craft & Culture of Indian Hand Wood Block Printing. – Artist and textile designer Rebecca Layton discusses the history, craft, and culture of hand wood block printing in India, as well as the process and collaboration behind her own contemporary block prints. Having spent many years traveling, working, and researching textiles in India, Rebecca shares her experiences developing unique prints and working with artisans who use these ancient printing and dyeing techniques.
