The Hudson Area Library’s History Room Committee presents The History of Hudson’s Ukrainian Community with guest speakers Rev. Richard Washburn and Rosa Pfeil – Part of the Local History Speaker Series – The history of the Ukrainian community in Columbia County dates from the 19^th century when immigrants from western Ukraine moved to this area. Learn why they settled here and how they developed a community in Hudson, as well as the 200-year history of Hudson’s Ukrainian churches, and Ukrainian heritage, traditions and holiday celebrations that are still observed. – Reverend Washburn is a Hudson native and an ordained deacon in permanent service to the Catholic Church.  He is currently Chairman of the Columbia County Board of Ethics, serves as Chaplain to the Hudson Police Department, Greenport Fire Department, and multiple organizations in the county. He is known for his frequent columns in the Hudson River Sampler.  Rosa Pfeil emigrated as a young child with her Ukrainian parents in 1950 and has lived in Hudson ever since. Chatham County Line – Johnny Irion opens – While the Raleigh, N.C.-based Chatham County Line resembles a bluegrass outfit in instrumentation, plays bluegrass festivals, and even has won awards for its bluegrass approach, Chatham County Line is as much a songwriter’s band as it is a picking outfit.  The group’s original songs betray the influence of classic roots-rock singer-songwriters like Neil Young, Gram Parsons and Bob Dylan.  The group can do the high-lonesome sound with the best of them, but then turn around and stretch out on an improvisation that takes the audience on a ride into jazz or jam-band territory.  The group’s next album, “Autumn,” is due out in September – Information at helsinkihudson.com or 828-4800 – 9 pm – Club Helsinki, 405 Columbia Street

Follies, Function & Form: Imagining Olana’s Summer House – A design exhibition featuring original concept sketches by 21 architects and landscape architects to address one of Olana’s great mysteries – Frederic Church’s 1886 plan for Olana, detailed Church’s vision for his large-scale designed landscape  The plan’s details are largely accurate, yet it contains a structure labeled “Summer House,” which doesn’t exist today.  Twenty-one architects and landscape architects were invited to imagine what such a structure might look like.  The exhibition serves as a dialogue of innovative design ideas and as a response to Olana’s historic context and dramatic setting – Curated by Mark Prezorski, Landscape Curator, The Olana Partnership, with guest co-curator Jane Smith, AIA, of Spacesmith – On view through November 13 – Information at 828-1872, ext. 103 or olana.org/summerhouse – Tuesdays through Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm – Coachman’s House Gallery, Olana State Historic Site, GPS address: 5720 Route 9G, Hudson
