The Hudson Area Library History Room Committee presents The Proprietors and their Lasting Influence on the City of Hudson, a presentation by Carl G. Whitbeck, Jr., a local resident whose family has deep roots in the area – The Proprietors were a group of Quaker merchants from Nantucket Island and Providence, Rhode Island, who sought to find a fertile land in which to establish a commercial settlement.  In 1783, Thomas Jenkins purchased a bit of land on the Hudson River called “Claverack Landing” from the Dutch settlers.  In 1784, Jenkins and his committee mapped out an early survey of streets and plots.  The other proprietors soon followed with their families and established the City of Hudson in April of 1785 as an incorporated city.  Mr.Whitbeck is a partner in the Rapport Meyers law firm in Hudson, is attorney to a number of municipalities in Columbia County and serves on a number of community boards.  The presentation is part of the library’s Local History Speaker Series.  The presentation will be followed by Q&A and light refreshments – Admission is free and open to the public – Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis – 6 pm – Community Room, First Floor, Hudson Area Library, 51 North Fifth Street (corner of State Street)

Je Tu Il Elle (1975) – Chantal Akerman stars as an aimless young woman who leaves self-imposed isolation to embark on a road trip that leads to lonely love affairs with a male truck driver and a former girlfriend – This is Akerman’s most sexually audacious film. In French with English subtitles.

Solutions for a Livable Planet – Come learn what forward-thinking farmers are up to!
