The Fourth Farming Our Future Conference brings together a diverse audience from the community including established and beginning farmers, interested non-farmers, suppliers, educators, community leaders, industry leaders, and students – The morning begins at 8 am with registration and a light breakfast provided.  Prior to the general session at 9 am, participants will have an opportunity to network with fellow attendees and exhibitors.  Brian Donahue, Associate Professor of American Environmental Studies at Brandeis University, and Environmental Historian at Harvard Forest, will be the keynote speaker. At Brandeis, he teaches courses on environmental history and sustainable farming and forestry, and chairs the Environmental Studies Program.   His keynote address is entitled “Wildlands, Woodlands, Farmlands, and Communities: Envisioning New England and the Northeast.”  His address is followed by a panel discussion with Amy Klein of Capital Roots, Jesse Tolz of Field Goods, and Brian Donahue himself.   The panel will bring their perspectives on ways that nutritious food can be obtained in the various places they serve. Following the panel discussion, participants will have the opportunity to participate in one of the various workshops planned for the day, such as:  “Land Access Tools to Support Farmers,” led by Terence Duval of the Columbia Land Conservancy; “How Big Does My Business Need To Be,” led by David Rifenburgh from Farm Credit East; “Seed Saving Techniques,” led by Ian from Turtletree Seeds; and “The Journey to Farm Succession,” led by Stephen Hadcock from Cornell Cooperative Extension. – The day will culminate with lunch and a final opportunity for participants to network with each other and with exhibitors. Hudson Area Library Volunteer Fair – February is Library Lovers’ Month and the Hudson Area Library is holding a volunteer fair for all library lovers!  The library relies on its talented and committed volunteers to ensure it can provide the services and programs that the community benefits from, and to raise much needed funds. Anyone who can spare a few hours per year, per month or per week is welcome to volunteer. Volunteering is a great way to meet people, contribute to the community, and to give input on the services and programs offered.  The fair offers an opportunity to learn about the library’s resources, programs and events planned for 2017 and how volunteers can get involved.  Attendees can learn about volunteering for fundraising events, the library’s History Room, various programs and classes, and working at the circulation desk. Members of the Library Board and staff will be attending the event. Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams – Between the two of them, this husband-and-wife duo have the entirety of Americana music flowing through their veins.  While best known for his work with Bob Dylan and Levon Helm, Grammy award-winning multi-instrumentalist Campbell has been a stalwart of the roots-rock scene since the 1970s.  Teresa Williams has most notably created and toured the role of Sara Carter, who was lead singer of the Original Carter Family, in the story of the Carters, “Keep on the Sunny Side,” and appears as Sara in the PBS documentary “Lost Highway,” and in the PBS documentary, “The Carter Family: Will the Circle be Unbroken.” – Information at 828-4800 or helsinkihudson.com – 9 pm – Club Helsinki, 405 Columbia Street
