In the Steps of Trisha Brown – Choreographer Trisha Brown revolutionized the world of contemporary dance.  Her work, with costumes by Robert Rauschenberg, moves to Paris to be performed by a new generation of dancers – In English and French with English subtitles

Behemoth – Documentarian Zhao Liang offers intoxicating and terrifying images of the ravages wrought by his country’s coal and iron industries on both the land and its people.  In Chinese with English subtitles

Bird on a Wire – This long-lost documentary, never released theatrically until now, captures Leonard Cohen during his 1972 “Bird On a Wire” tour.

St. Patrick’s Day

Artists’ Potluck Dinner & Salon – Come celebrate Str. Patrick’s Day with the artists of Hudson!  Bring a dish to share and your creative thoughts and ideas. – The last meeting was a continuing discussion on the purpose and mission of the group—forums, art talk, show & tell, guest artists, etc., and we posed the question—“What is art?” – Painter Dan Rupe will be leading the discussion at this meeting.  Sher Stevens is hosting the potluck and discussion – Christine Hales will provide a projector and will show a film short on one of the abstract expressionist’s paintings – Any artist who has work to share may put the images on a flash (thumb) drive and bring it along – The Potluck Dinner is held the third Friday of each month – All are welcome – Information by email to [email protected] – 6 to 9 pm – Hudson Senior Center, Second Floor, Hudson Area Library, 51 North Fifth Street (corner of State Street)

Glenn Jones and Laura Baird – Glenn Jones is a master of American Primitive Guitar, a style invented in the late 1950s by John Fahey, whose traditional fingerpicking technique and wide ranging influences were used to create modern original compositions.  Jones, who led the post-rock ensemble Cul de Sac, brings his own made-up tunings, the use of custom-crafted partial capos, and a highly skilled picking style on both banjo and guitar, to create personal compositions that are lyrical, emotive and elegant.  Laura Baird will also perform. – Information at 671-6006 or www.thespottydog.com/events – 8 pm – Spotty Dog Books & Ale, 440 Warren Street

The Last Picture Show (1971) – The final movie showing at Fairview Cinema 3 – How fitting that the last movie to be shown in our beloved neighborhood movie theater should be this classic film starring Jeff Bridges, Cybill Shepard, Timothy Bottoms, and Cloris Leachman.  The film was directed and co-written by Peter Bogdanovich, adapted from the 1996 novel by Larry McMurtry – The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards and in 1998 was deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the U.S. Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry – The film will be shown Friday through Sunday at 7 pm, and at Saturday and Sunday matinees at 1 pm – The theatre will be closing its doors after Sunday evening’s show.   Our gratitude and best wishes go to Bruce Mitchinson, who has provided a home for some of our best film experiences (including popcorn, Milk Duds and Junior Mints.) – Fairview Cinema 3, Fairview Plaza, 160 Fairview Avenue, Greenport

Learn about the Shakers – Writings on the Walls: The Brethren’s Workshop – The Brethren’s Workshop was the center of a range of the North Family’s industries, including their packaged seed business, broom-making, and cabinetry.  Take a tour inside the Workshop to examine up close and personally the signatures, sketches, dates, graffiti, markings and other remnants left by its inhabitants since its construction in 1829, while learning more about some of the stories that they tell us. Clermont State Historic Site presents Scuttlebutt and Scandals in the Livingston Family, a talk by curator of Collections Geoff Benton, Education Assistant Emily Robinson, and NYS Interpretive Programs Coordinator Kjirsten Gustavson that will explore three scandals from the Livingston family’s past.  Subjects covered include: Chancellor Robert R.
