An afternoon tea and fashion show provided by Verdigris Tea & Chocolate Bar and Mirror Mirror Clothing Shop at Copake Community Center on Mountain View Road, Copake. 1:00-4:00 p.m. All proceeds benefit Taconic Hills Elementary School Backpack Program through the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern NY and C.A.N. (Churches Assisting Neighbors).

The Eastern Dutchess College Fair will be hosted at Pine Plains School in the Stissing Mountain High School Gym. 8:30-9:30 a.m.

The Swiss Hutte on 3290 Rt. 23 Hillsdale, will be the last restaurant on the list for the “Dine Out for the Library” event. 5:30-9:00 p.m. Support a local restaurant by enjoying a tasty meal in the slow season, and the restaurant supports the library by donating 10% of the price of the meal to programming for children and teens. An open mic for Poem-a-Day Challenge participants to read some of the poems they wrote, will be held at the Roeliff Jansen Community Library, on Friday, April 29, 7:00 – 8:00 pm.
Friday Afternoons
Job search help will be available every Friday afternoon between 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Roeliff Jansen Community Library. Bring your resume (if you have one) and you’ll need some computer skills. The program will be coached by Beth Gordon, she will cover topics such as using the internet to find career opportunities, tips on writing your resume and cover letter and where to present your resume online.

Story-time at Roeliff Jansen Community Library will be every Thursday at 10:30 but Saturday, April 30, Cookie, the therapy dog will come to Story-time. Children from birth to age five are welcome for stories, music, movement and crafts. The sessions are designed to introduce easy-to-use early literacy practices to children and their parents or caregivers and provide social opportunities for the children.

Hawthorne Valley’s Farmscape Ecology Program hosts a leisurely exploration of the spring flora in this beautiful and diverse Public Conservation Area. 10:00 – 12 noon. See examples of some of the beautiful wildflowers, learn how to distinguish them, and delve into their ecology and lore.

An Overview of Significant Habitats and Wildlife in the Towns of Hillsdale, Copake, and Ancram will be located at the Roeliff Jansen Community Library presented by Ingrid Haeckel and Cornell University. 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Ingrid Haeckel will present an overview of information provided in Habitat Summary reports to the towns of Hillsdale, Copake, and Ancram describing local wetlands, forests, trout streams, grasslands, and shrublands, and some of the uncommon plants and wildlife of the area. Learn what we have, what it means, and steps that towns and residents can take to conserve this natural heritage.

Join our friends at Hawthorne Valley’s Farmscape Ecology Program for a leisurely early morning stroll through the rich spring flora of Phudd Hill. See many examples of common and not so common wildflowers, learn how to distinguish them, and delve into their ecology and lore… Stay afterwards for the May Festival at Hawthorne Valley School and watch the children dance around the May Pole!
The walk will be led by Claudia Knab-Vispo. It is free, but the number of participants is limited. Please register early by email or phone (518-672-7994) to reserve your space and receive directions.
Join Freinds of Taconic State Park for a spring spruce-up and show Taconic State Park your love starting at 9 a.m. We’ll have jobs for every age level (and t-shirts too!) so bring the kids, bring some work gloves and a bag lunch for a picnic afterwards at the Copake Iron Works. Claudia Knab-Vispo will be leading a rigorous hike up Harvey Mountain in Austerlitz. It will be a 3 hour outing to allow time to look at the spring flowers. From past year’s experience, we hope to see some uncommon species, such as Pink Lady’s Slippers and Painted Trillium, and many other spring ephemerals, as well as woody plants in bloom. The West Copake Reformed Church presents an Italian Night Dinner at the Copake Park Building. 5:00-7:00 p.m. You can eat-in or take-out, dinner will include spaghetti with meatballs or sausage, lasagna, stuffed shells, tossed salad, bread, beverage, homemade dessert & many more choices. Roeliff Jansen Community Library 7th Annual Gala will be held across from the library at the Harvest Barn at Roeliff Jansen Park 9140 Rt. 22. 5:00-7:30 p.m. Starters will be prepared by local chefs to enjoy with a glass of wine. There will be a live and silent auction of unique services and items. Tickets are $100, for more information call (518) 325-5073.

Copake Trash & Treasure, a summer tag sale at the Copake Fire House. Help support the fire company, get rid of old clutter and find new treasures. 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. There will also be fire truck showings, car washes, merchant raffle and food. To reserve your booth at the Copake Fire House call Heathar Jensen (518) 329-2215, inside booths will be $25.00 and outside the Fire House are $15.00.
