From the Columbia County Board of Supervisors
CHAIRMAN’S PRESS RELEASE
COUNTY VAX 2nd DOSE RETURN RATE ‘UNIQUE’
As of midday Friday, the Columbia County Department of Health had recorded eight new positive cases of COVID19. There were 10 new cases on Wednesday, and 14 cases Thursday. There are currently no county residents hospitalized as a result of the virus.
County DOH Director Jack Mabb today said that Columbia County appears “unique” regarding the rate of those who are returning to receive their second dose of the vaccine. Other counties are experiencing a 10-20 percent rate of non-returnees, he said.
Looking ahead, Director Mabb said the DOH plans to conduct more vaccine at various locations around the county. “It’s valuable for us to do PODs in underserved areas,” he said. Director Mabb added that if the Pfizer vaccine receives approval for those aged 12 and up, approximately 2,000 county school students, would be eligible. The six county school districts will be canvassing parents to determine the interest level.
ADVISORY: Please note that the numbers distributed in Board of Supervisors Chairman Matt Murell’s coronavirus press releases are morning results provided to the county Department of Health via the state reporting system. Updated numbers are issued again by the state in the afternoon, ordinarily past the time this press release is distributed. Consequently, there may be discrepancies in the numbers that appear here versus the final daily numbers shown on the DOH website and elsewhere.
