Columbia County Update

FROM: Chairman Matt Murell

NEW SUPPLY OF CLOTH MASKS RECEIVED FROM STATE

Columbia County Emergency Management Director David W. Harrison, Jr., said earlier this week that his office had received a delivery of 11,000 cloth masks from New York State. The masks have been divided and delivered to the municipalities within the county.

“County residents should look to their towns, villages and the City of Hudson for cloth masks when needed. We thank the town and city supervisors and the mayors for their cooperation,” Director Harrison said. In addition, said Director Harrison, “The food pantries in our county have been busy — we would like to remind people that any donations of food should go to the local food pantries and to the county Office for the Aging.”

NEW FINANCIAL DONATIONS

Columbia County has received new monetary donations toward the purchase of coronavirus testing kits, Chairman Murell said Friday. Prior donations from the public amounted to $31,630. Since then, a total of $645 has been received: $50 from Henry and Kim Meade and $595 from Erin Hawker and Jonathan Furay, who conducted a neighborhood fundraiser. “Once again, I can’t thank everyone enough for their generous support in the fight against the coronavirus,” said Chairman Murell.

YARD SALES

As the weather begins to improve, the county has fielded calls regarding yard sales and whether or not they are currently allowed under New York State guidelines, said Chairman Murell on Friday “I’m sorry to say that despite the rich history of yard sales in Columbia County, they are not allowed — they are considered retail operations, which fall under Phase 2 of the state’s four-phase reopening plan,” said Chairman Murell.

Reminders….

Edwards Elementary School in Hudson, the first on Wednesday, May 27, And the second on Tuesday, June 2. Times are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Matt B. Murell Chairman Kelly S. Baccaro Clerk Ronald L. Additional information, including signup instructions, can be found on the Health Department’s webpage on the Columbia County website or by calling 518-828-3358.

County Board of Supervisors Chairman Matt Murell said earlier this week that the county is aware of businesses that are attempting to conduct business in disregard of the state’s New York on PAUSE order. “We have received complaints about PAUSE being violated in the county,” said Chairman Murell. “The county is working with municipalities to address those complaints, which are considered building and zoning code issues and therefore a town, village, or city matter. I remind everyone that the county is required to follow the proper procedures regarding the handling of complaints or potentially face state penalties.” As of Friday, added Chairman Murell, the Capital Region has satisfied five of the seven metrics set forth by the state in order for a region to begin reopening its economy under Phase I of the four-phase plan.
