Hudson Historical and Columbia County Historical Societies’ Toll House Lecture- November 12
“All Roads to the River: The 1799 Columbia Turnpike and Historic Toll Houses” is an illustrated lecture presented by the Hudson Historic and Columbia County Historic Societies’. Not only are both toll houses listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but the Turnpike they mark helped establish commerce in Hillsdale, Greenport, and all along the Hudson River providing families an outlet for the goods in the early 19th Century. Efforts underway to preserve the toll houses and identify route 23 as a scenic byway of historic importance will also be covered in the presentation.
The presentation will take place in the Kinderhook Town Hall: 2nd Floor on Saturday November 12, featuring Peter Cipkowski will begin at 4 p.m. and a wine reception will follow at the Vanderpoel House. Tickets are $15 for members and $20 for non-members, (members of either Hudson Historic or Columbia County Historic Societies), and guests may join at the door.
Kinderhook Town Hall is located at 6 Chatham Street, Kinderhook New York. The Vanderpoel House is located at 16 Broad Street, Kinderhook New York.
