April 30, 2021 Update

CHAIRMAN’S PRESS RELEASE
DAILY INFECTIONS REMAIN UNDER TEN
By midday Friday, the Columbia County Department of Health had recorded seven new positive cases of COVID19. There were eight new cases on Thursday, and four on Wednesday. Three individuals are currently hospitalized as a result of the virus. One is in the ICU.
The recent infection numbers mean the county’s infection rate remains under two percent, noted DOH Director Jack Mabb. Forty-nine percent of Columbia County residents have now received at least one dose of the COVID19 vaccine. Thirty-eight percent are fully vaccinated. By comparison, an average of 55 percent of county residents receive an annual flu shot.
Director Mabb said that as the larger PODs that have been conducted since a COVID-19 vaccine became available are no longer filling up, the county DOH plans to introduce smaller, pop-up vaccination PODs around the county. Information on upcoming vaccination PODs is continually being updated on the county DOH website at columbiacountynyhealth.com.
ADVISORY: Please note that the numbers distributed in Board of Supervisors Chairman Matt Murell’s coronavirus press releases are morning results provided to the county Department of Health via the state reporting system. Updated numbers are issued again by the state in the afternoon, ordinarily past the time this press release is distributed. Consequently, there may be discrepancies in the numbers that appear here versus the final daily numbers shown on the DOH website and elsewhere.
